Sports massage therapy has many benefits. Its primary purpose is to acheive full functionality to muscles and other soft tissues.     This can simply mean easing the tension which has built up in your back, neck and shoulders over long hours hunched over a computer in the office, or restoring maximum performance to an overtrained muscle group of an athlete. It is also a very effective pre and post event treatment. It will also help ease away general tension built up in the body caused by general strains of day to day life.

Sports massage therapy can prove extremely effective in treating a wide range of conditions including chronic muscle tension, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, runners knee, shin splints, ligament injury, chronic neck, back & shoulder tension, deep adhesions, whiplash injury, scar tissue, general back ache, tight hamstrings, calf muscles, biceps, quadricepts etc. It may also be used to treat sciatica, poor posture & general body flexibility. It can bring great relief to migraine sufferers. It also improves circulation and lymphatic flow and remove toxins, which brings more general health benefits.

It may also be used for general maintainence as part of your personal training regime, and may in some cases be used in conjuction with or as an alternative to visiting a physiotherapist, osteopath or chiropractor.

Sports massage is a very varied and sophisticated treatment that can help treat soft tissue injuries, maintain a healthy body and prevent injury. It is of benefit to anybody, not just people who are particualy active. IRSM Qualified sports massage therapists will have acquired knowledge of how muscles function and how problems arise. With this knowledge we can treat muscle problems of all kinds, not just those of sports enthusiasts.

Sports massage has a calming effect, but it is not primarily a relaxing massage. Some of its techniques involve slightly uncomfortable pressure on muscle tissue. You will find however, thats its effects can often be more lasting than with other types of massage.
